Use Ceramic Tile Designs To Create A Unique Look For Your Home

Decorative ceramic tiles can be used in your home decorating scheme to create a surface that is an expression of your personality, and that is uniquely your own. This is done by using tiles to make a pattern, as was discussed on the ceramic tile patterns page, or by using ceramic tiles that have a design on the tile itself to create ceramic tile art.

Ceramic tile designs can be mass-produced, usually with classic themes that can be incorporated in many types of projects. Or you can buy unique ceramic art tile that has been designed by an artist. You can even work with a tile artisan to create a one-of-a-kind series of tiles in a theme of your own choosing.

Mass-produced decorative ceramic tile is commonly used for backsplashes or fireplace surrounds. But often it is available in sizes that can be used for borders. Such tiles can consist of geometric patterns, or repetitive designs of vines or waves. These ceramic art tiles are sold by popular tile manufacturers, like Armstrong and Daltile.

With the advance of computer technology, programs are now available that are capable of performing mass-produced, but short-run projects to print designs on tile, which are then fired to set the design. So you can have your own design produced in enough quantity to provide unique ceramic art tiles for use in your home decorating project.

Perhaps the most spectacular of all designs would be a mural. Ceramic tile murals have been used throughout history to decorate buildings from Europe to China. Mass-produced murals can be purchased for as little as $50 for a small four or six tile pattern using a common motif such as flowers. Or you can spend thousands of dollars for a high-quality unique mural using ceramic art tile designed by an artisan.

If you decide to use a ceramic tile design, there are virtually unlimited choices available. Your budget will ultimately be the limiting factor. If you're short on funds, then visit a ceramic tile distributor who has a clearance room. Often you can buy beautiful decorated tiles that are being discontinued, or have slight flaws.

So there goes your excuse - go out and see what's available in your price range, and start your home decorating project with a unique ceramic tile design.

A friend of mine uses tiling on her bathroom walls that's all white, except for a border going around the top . The border consists of tiles having a vine design, so it ends up looking kind of like a vine growing around her bathroom ceiling -- a nice effect!
