Add A Touch Of Class To Your Kitchen With A Ceramic Tile Backsplash

One of the areas that is ofter forgotten when decorating is the backspash area above the stovetop and counters. A coat of paint is OK, but not very impressive or interesting. It is a shame to ignore this area when there are so many beautiful ceramic tiles that could be used.

Kitchen backsplashes are small enough that it is relatively easy for a homeowner to install them. A ceramic tile backsplash can add so much personality and interest to your kitchen, for so little cost, that it is a shame not to try one. Visit your local ceramic tile supplier, and look at the different tiles available - you'll be hooked!

Ceramic tile and kitchen stores have mock-ups of many different patterns hanging on the wall to show how they will look when installed. There are so many patterns to choose from, that everyone should find one that will work in their home. You can get ceramic tiles in all-over patterns, or with pictures worked into the tile.

A decorative backsplash might feature a basket of fruit or flowers painted on and fired into the finish of the tiles. It could be a pastoral scene or an abstract design. These kitchen backsplash tile designs are usually meant to be used over the sink or range, with a simpler pattern for the remaining areas. Another design might involve a background tile with fancier tile borders on top and bottom of the space.

A ceramic tile backsplash is often made up of small tiles on a backer sheet. This is nice, because it establishes the proper spacing between tiles for you. You apply tile mastic to the wall and then press the sheet of ceramic tiles onto it. You need spacers between sheets to keep a uniform spacing across the entire wall.

After the whole decorative backsplash is tiled, you let everything dry for a day, and then go over the whole area with grout. Grout fills in all the spaces with a uniform color, and makes the wall flatter and easier to clean. It takes a little work to spread the grout and work it into all the spaces so there are no gaps. After the grout is applied, you wipe off all the extra with a wet sponge. When the grout is dry, it is a good idea to coat the whole job with a ceramic tile sealer.

Kitchen backsplashes look great, and are more durable, when you use ceramic tile. Ceramic is stronger than painted sheetrock and will be easier to clean. You can even put a bathroom backsplash over the vanity to jazz up that oft-neglected room. If you take the little bit of time needed to install a ceramic tile backsplash, you'll be amazed at how it improves the look of the room.

I'm glad you talked about the backer sheets that small tiles sometimes come on. They really do make installation a breeze. I've seen some small tile patterns that looked pretty sloppy because somebody didn't take the time to set them carefully.

I love having a backsplash above the stove in my kitchen. It sure does make cleanup a lot easier after frying some fish. And it also adds a touch of class - I found some tiles with fish on them!

Flooring and Floor Mats

By Francesco Zinzaro
The least you are able to do for your kitchen area staff is provide a bit of cushioning for the long hours they spend on their feet. Kitchen mats, when correctly selected and utilized, provide traction for employees, minimize accidental breakage, and keep floors cleaner as well. Rubber mats are arguably the most pleasant, but the longest-wearing mats contain nylon cords melded towards the rubber.
