Using Ceramic Kitchen Tile Is Practical As Well As Popular

Ceramic tile is the most popular choice for use in the kitchen for more than one reason. It is beautiful, durable, and comes in a wide variety of styles and colors. These qualities are the result of how ceramic tile is made and what it is made of. And ceramic kitchen tile can be used on many types of surfaces, not just for the flooring material.

Advantages of Kitchen Ceramic Tile

There are several kinds of tile that you could use instead of ceramic kitchen tiles: stone, glass, and porcelain, for example. The list below will give just a few reasons for choosing ceramic tile.

Disadvantages of Ceramic Kitchen Tile

The popularity of decorative ceramic tile is a testament to how its advantages heavily outweigh its disadvantages. But there are a few things to complain about.

Tips on Choosing the Right Size for your Ceramic Kitchen Tiles

Use larger tiles ( 12" - 18" ) for flooring, but use the 18" size only if you have a large kitchen, since it tends to overwhelm the decor of the room. 6" tiles are a good size for countertops. Smaller ones can be used to make patterns for backsplashes.

The thickness of the tile you need depends on whether it is going on a vertical or horizontal surface. On a wall, tiles must be thin ( 1/16" - 1/4" ) so that their weight doesn't loosen them. But on horizontal surfaces, the thickness you choose ( 1/4" - 5/8 " ) will depend on what weight the tile must support.

I didn't see that ad, but I'll bet it was for plank flooring, not square tiles. I don't think you can get laminate tiles, so it's not the same thing.

You say that ceramic tile is less expensive than other kinds of tile. But I just saw an ad on another website about some laminate flooring they had on sale for only 47 cents a square foot. I've never seen ceramic tile for that little.

I have a friend who has done a lot of travelling in Europe and the Near East. She collects a 6" ceramic tile in each country she visits. Then when she returns, she adds her latest tiles to a row going around the back of her kitchen counters. After putting up a few each year, she's now almost finished - and they look great!
